Update…

I just got home from taking the EMT knowledge exam. 130 questions, with only a couple that gave me pause… simply because of they way they were written. All in all, I think I did pretty well, even though I was the first person finished. JB Test Prep was a huge help. By a quick count, it looked like upwards of 80 folks tested. As I mentioned, the top 50 get invited to the oral interviews. 24 22 get a seat in class. Also, a very hearty thank you to everyone who provided encouragement. I really appreciate it. I’ll find out next week if I made into the orals. (They’re planning to send out the letters on Friday.)

Also, just got the call from “new job HR”. Orientation at OAC starts on 5/11.

Yeah baby… I’m feelin’ good today!

    Well done!

Was this scenario-based? Usually if they are you’ll run into questions like the ones you saw. Cataldo has a pre-hire exam – on the order of 100 questions, many scenario-based. It was without a doubt the toughest written exam I have ever taken. Even harder than when I took the CCEMT-P final, and that is saying a lot. I had much the same reaction to it that it sounds like you had. Turned out fine – they hired me, when all was said and done… My gut tells me you will be one of the 24 that gets a seat.

Congratulations on going to OAC – it sounds like, from all I’ve read, a good opportunity. And I think you’ll get a little more variety than what you were getting at IFT. That, just by itself, will make work more interesting.

There were a lot of questions like this:

You are working on a night shift on an ambulance and arrive on the scene of an assault at a residence. The house is dark and the front screen door has been knocked off its hinges. No law enforcement is on scene yet and the street is quiet. Which of the following is your best course of action?

Pretty easy, ya know? Now, if I can just squeeze in ahead of some of the 22 year old fire-monkeys, I’ll be set.

And I’m stoked about OAC. Anything has got to be better than IFT was.
