It's been awhile…

…and someone told me that I needed to update my blog.

So, here’s the big old “what’s goin’ on” update.

School is really busy. The A&P is pretty difficult, and we’re still just in the review stages. I’m looking forward to getting past the basic cell structure and chemistry stuff and on to the real anatomy. (Yes, I know I need to know the chemistry stuff, too… but, I really dislike chemistry. So there.)

The Coordinated studies class is fun. The seminar portion is what I really look forward to. Reading new stuff and then discussing it with a group of people that I don’t know and have no common connection with is a fascinating way to get deeper into a text. Now, the amount of reading is a bit excessive, but it is a 10 credit course, so I should just suck it up.

EMT is going well. Most of it is review for me, but I found a good portion of the skills to be be very different. I don’t know if it’s because it’s been so long and I learned bad habits back then, or it was because I was so young and didn’t pay as much attention as I should have, or some of the stuff we’re doing now is specific to the County. At any rate, it’s not really hard, but it’s not really easy. Does that make sense?

Red Cross stuff is good. I’m still teaching a lot of classes and now I’m officially certified as a Emergency Response instructor. Yippee. My card was stuck in my instructor folder the other day when I went in to the chapter. It’s funny that two years ago I was taking that course. Now I can teach it.

Home is good. My wife’s Aunt is visiting for a couple of days and then next week my sweetie will be gone for 7 or 8 days for training and her niece’s baby shower in St Louis. I’ll be a bachelor, eating fried chicken and soup. Bear Dawg seems to be OK after his tumor surgery. We didn’t get the histology report back yet, but my fingers are crossed. His stitches are healing up nicely and he’s becoming active again. Of course, Casey is still aloof and neurotic. Some things just never change.

It’s EMT tonight. We have a lecture on muscle/skeletal injuries and a test on SAMPLE history taking. I’m pretty sure I’ll do well. Tomorrow morning is an exam in A&P and another seminar in Coordinated Studies.
